Maharashtra set to get inter-caste marriage law
The Maharashtra government is planning to introduce an inter-caste marriage legislation to prevent heinous crimes like ‘honour killings’.

  • The law is planned along the lines of the revolutionary law enacted by Shahu Maharaj, the reformer and ruler of Kolhapur in 1919. He was the first to enact a legislation to encourage intercaste marriages.
  • API office to be reopened in China
    After nearly three years, India will restart a ‘permanent audit office’ in China to conduct quality inspections of active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), raw materials from which drugs are made.

  • While low-cost, generic medicines made in India have made it the ‘pharmacy of the world’, most domestic manufacturers
  • DIPP & WIPO to set up Technology and Innovation Support Centers
    The Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)have signed an agreement to establish Technology and Innovation Support Centers (TISC)
    The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)
    WIPO is one of the 17 specialized agencies of the United Nations.

  • WIPO was created in 1967 “to encourage creative activity, to promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world”.
  • WIPO currently has 189 member states.
  • It’s headquartering in Geneva, Switzerland.
  • The current Director-General of WIPO is Francis Gurry, who took office on October 1, 2008.
