Japan’s men-only island up for global heritage status
A Unesco advisory body has recommended adding Japan’s island of Okinoshima, a men- only ancient religious site in Fukuoka prefec- ture, to its World Heritage list, cultural author- ities announced.
  • If approved, the island will be the 17th set of Japanese cultural assets to be granted World Heritage status, taking the total number of Japanese assets on the list to 21.
  • Japan pitches for Chabahar port
    Japan is keen on collaborating with India on projects in Asia and Africa as a counter to China’s
    ★Belt and Road initiative (B&RI).

    ★It is a development strategy proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping that focuses on connectivity and cooperation between Eurasian countries, primarily the People’s Republic of China, the land – based “Silk Road Economic Belt” (SREB) and the ocean- going “Maritime Silk Road” (MSR).
    ★The strategy underlines China’s push to take a larger role in global affairs, and the desire to coordinate manufacturing capacity with other countries in areas such as steel manufacturing

    British street artist Banksy has created his first mural inspired by Brexit, showing a work- man chipping away at one of the stars on the European Union flag.
