India skips China’s Belt and Road Forum, no delegation seen at opening ceremony
★India skipped the opening ceremony of China’s Belt and Road Forum following sov- ereignty concerns over the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
★No Indian delegation was seen at the opening ceremony addressed by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Indian scientists have unveiled home-grown gold standard
India now has its own standard bar of gold that is 99.99% pure and can be used to veri- fy the purity of gold sold in shops.
★Despite India being one of the largest mar- kets for gold, goldsmiths so far depended on imported reference gold bars to check the purity of their biscuits, coins and jewellery.
★Called the Bharatiya Nirdeshak Dravya (BND 4201), the bar, weighing 20gm and with the dimensions of a ‘Parle-G’ biscuit (in the words of a scientists associated with its develop- ment), will mean that Indian jewellers will no longer need to import gold bars to check the purity of ornaments.
North Korea launches a missile, its first test after an Election in the South Korea
North Korea launched an intermediate-range ballistic missile, the first test since a new president took office in South Korea this past week and called for dialogue with the North.
★The missile took off from the north western city of Kusong and flew more than 430 miles before landing in the sea between North Korea and Japan, the South Korean military said in a statement.
