NITI AAYOG forms a panel:
The NITI Aayog has set up a national-level committee to develop a roadmap for the implementation of the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) policy.

The National ITS policy will reduce urban traffic congestion, improve parking for vehicles in cities, road safety and the security of passenger and goods traffic.

Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav inaugurated in Ahemdabad

The Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav (RMS) inaugurated in Ahmedabad . “Rashtriya Sanskriti Mahotsav (RSM)-2017” started will continue till 9th October, 2017 in India’s 1st World Heritage City i.e Ahmadabad.
The festival will celebrate Unesco’s declaration of Ahmedabad as a World Heritage City. The three-day cultural festival, which is being organized under the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative, will include host of events including folk arts performances, documentaries, and a painting exhibition.

First ‘BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise- 2017’
First ‘BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise- 2017’ to be held in India The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is an international organisation involving a group of countries in South Asia and South East Asia. This group was formed on 06th June 1997.
These are: Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Bhutan and Nepal. The BIMSTEC states are among the countries dependent on the Bay of Bengal.
The First ‘BIMSTEC Disaster Management Exercise- 2017’ (BIMSTEC DMEx-2017) will be conducted by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) as the lead agency next week from October 10-13, 2017 in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).
This Exercise will be a platform for sharing Best Practices on all aspects of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), strengthening regional response and coordination for Disaster Management among the BIMSTEC member countries.
Objective: The main focus of the BIMSTEC DMEx-2017 will be on testing the region’s preparedness and resilience towards effective activation of inter-Governmental interaction/dialogue/agreements for immediate deployment of regional resources for disaster response.

India’s role in Disaster Risk Reduction:
India has been at the lead of DRR efforts by hosting the South Asian Annual Disaster Management Exercise (SAADMEx) and the Asian Ministerial Conference for Disaster Risk Reduction (AMCDRR). India has also offered its expertise and capabilities in DRR such as the South Asia satellite, GSAT-9, and the Tsunami Early Warning Centre to other countries.
Foundation stone laid for roads and bridges construction projects at Andaman & Nicobar Islands:
Government trying to connect all states & union territories well connected to streamline the process of development and that out of 1382 islands in the country, 10 have been selected for infrastructure development of which 5 are located in the A & N Islands. Island Development Agency (IDA) has been created for taking care of the development and security of these Islands
